Acts 13:44, 48

"And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord:"

These Gentiles had passion to hear God's Word. They actually glorified the Word. I imagine we could all use some of that passion on Sundays as we head to hear the Word preached.

Acts 12:5

"Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the hcurch unto God for him."

Do I have this kind of passion for prayer? That I would pray for my brother or sister without ceasing?

Acts 11:28-30

"...there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to passin the days of Claudius Caesar. Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea: Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul."

I love the word "determined" in this text. The disciples were determined to help in any way they could, and they did. Reminds me of how we get together to help victims of national disasters. We really should have a passion, a burning determination to help others in need.

Acts 8:29, 30a

"Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join yourself to this chariot. And Philip ran there unto him..."

Philip was passionate about listening to the voice of the Spirit of God. He said "go there", and Philip RAN there! He didn't wait around to make sure, or second-guess himself, or slowly stroll that direction, making several stops along the way--no he ran straight there, and we know a soul was saved because of it.

Acts 6:8,10; 7:59-60

"And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spoke. ... And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep."

Talk about living with passion. Stephen is a wonderful example of that to us.

Acts 4:13,19-20,33

"Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all."

They were passionate about speaking the Gospel of Jesus.

Acts 2:41-47

"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about 3000 souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continung daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."

The early church seemed to have a great deal of passion! They served God with "gladness and singleness of heart." What a challenge to us today!

Wow... It has been way too long since I've updated this. I'm not going to lie. Things have been going on in my life that have caused me to take my focus away from living with passion. Psalm 126:5-6

"They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goes forth and weeps, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."

Are you passionate about seeking the lost? Have you ever cried over a lost person? Keep bringing them in to the Savior with passion, and God will turn those tears into a smile!

Psalm 119

There is so much in this chapter that communicates passion for the Word of God. I do not have time or space to write out all the verses that spoke to me of passion, but if you are serious about developing passion for the Word, I encourage you to do a personal study in this psalm.

Psalm 102:25-27

"Of old You have laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They shall perish, but You shall endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shall You change them, and they shall be changed. But You are the same, and Your years shall have no end."

Let me be passionate about Your eternity; about You immutability. You never change. You have always been and will always be. That's what makes You God. Help me live in light of that.

Psalm 97:10-12

"Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserves the life of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness."

Psalm 94:17-19

"Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence. When I said, My foot slips; Your mercy, O LORD, held me up. In the multitude of my thoughts within me, Your comforts delight my soul."

Does God's comfort delight your soul? Does anything about God delight your soul? If you have passion for Him, His ways and truth and everything about God will be a delight to your soul.

Psalm 91:14

"Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him."

Look what God will do for those who are passionate about Him! If I set my love upon the LORD, He will be with me in hard times, deliver me, and honor me.

"Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth. Unite my heart to fear Your name. I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify Your name forever."

I need to develop a passion for the Lord's name--to fear His name, and glorify His name.

Lamentations 3:21-25

"This I recall to my mind; therefore I have hope. It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, says my soul; therefore, will I hope in Him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeks Him."

Help me to remember You faithfulness and goodness, and therefore, have a passion to wait for You and seek You.

Psalm 84:2

"My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh cries out for the living God."

God, grant me this kind of passion to be in your presence.

Lamentations 2:11,18

"Mine eyes do fail with tears, my bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people; because the children and the infants swoon in the streets of the city. Their heart cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of Zion; let tears run down like a river day and night: give thyself no rest: let not the apple of thine eye cease."

Here, Jeremiah is extremely passionate about the increasing debauchery in his city of Jerusalem. His heart is just broken over the destruction that has come. It hurts him to see the children in the streets. Do we have this passion for people of our city? Do we not see debauchery, destruction, and unattended children in our streets. Let us show a passion to see them turn to the Lord; to see them cry unto Him with their whole heart.

Psalm 81:13

"Oh, that my people had hearkened unot me, and Israel had walked in my steps!"

God is showing passion for His people. How He wanted Israel then, and we believers now, to walk in His steps.

Psalm 78:36-39

"Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues. For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in His covenant. But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned He His anger away, and did not stir up all His wrath. For He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes away, and comes not again."

Thank You, Lord! It just brings me to my knees in total awe of You, when I consider how badly I have treated You, how much I have disobeyed, and been ungrateful, how many times I have lied to You and not kept my promises. But You are full of compassion. You forgive me every time. You haven't destroyed me. You understand that I am but flesh. My heart cannot thank You enough.

Psalm 71:14,20-21,23

"But I will hope continually , and will yet praise You more and more. You, who have shown me great and sore troubles shall quicken me again, and shall bring me up again from the depths of the earth. You shall increase my greatness and comfort me on every side. My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto You: and my soul, which You have redeemed."

The psalmist has a passion for praising God, Who has brought Him through many troubles and has comforted him. God has done the same for us. May we develop this same passion.

Psalm 62:5-8

"My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation: He is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah."

Selah is right. Read that over again and try to fully comprehend all the passion that is contained in these few verses. Wow.

Psalm 57:7

Proverbs 23:26

Lord, my attitudes, my thoughts, my emotions, my passions are Yours. Help me to trust You with them. You can do a much better job of forming and developing my passions than I can. Help me to give it fully to You.

Proverbs 22:11

A passion for a pure heart will enable me to speak with grace and thus enlarge my sphrere of influence!

Psalm 42:1

I want a passion to know Your ways, to taste Your goodness, to feel Your touch, to experience Your blessings, to see Your heart.

Lord, please give me a passion to imitate your lovingkindness in my own life towards everyone I know, and meet, and interact with.

These verses bring out a passion for God's goodness towards those who trust in Him.

Psalm 27:3,4

"Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident: One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to enquire in His temple."

Lord, give me a passion to be in Your presence and enjoy Your beauty.

Psalm 17:3b

Sure sounds like passion to me--passion for pure speech.

Psalm 16:8,9,11

"I have set the LORD always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices: my flesh also shall rest in hope. You will show me the path of life: in Your presence is fulness of joy; at Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore."

Wow. This passage is just packed full of passion! I see a passion to stay focused on God and rest in the sure hope that He will come through for us. This attitude will bring much pleasure and rejoicing.

Psalm 11:7

May I learn to have a passion for righteousness as God has.

Proverbs 8:11, 35-36

Lord, please give me a passion for Your wisdom.

I must be passionate about worshipping God, remembering His mercy and awesome holiness.

Proverbs 4:23

This verse commands me to have a passion for purity. My heart= my thoughts, my attitudes, my actions. I must be diligent to be pure in all these areas.

Psalm 2:11, 12a

"Serve the LORD with fear; rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry."

These verses speak to me of passionate serving, passionate rejoicing, and a passionate relationship with the Son.
